Coach Joe Lotto
Hello Hockey Players! My name is Joe Lotto. I was born and raised in the small town of Bradford, Ontario, Canada. I have played hockey for the past 42 years. I would like to tell you about who I am, and why I started this online program.
I grew up in Bradford, Ontario. A small town located north of Toronto, and south of Barrie. I started playing hockey at 7 years old. At first I did not enjoy the game, but I slowly became obsessed, and loved it. I guess you can say it's my first love.
I had a lot of coaches over my minor hockey career. Some I learned a lot from, and some I did not. My love for the game never waivered.
Growing up, my dad was a sports enthusiast who was always actively involved in whatever sport or extracurricular activities my brother and I were involved in. I have fond memories of watching my dad coach my brother’s hockey teams. Even when he was not involved with coaching the team, he was always there to watch us play. Looking back, I remember what a great feeling it was to see him in the crowd proudly watching and cheering us on.
My dad’s enthusiasm and passion for sports carried over to his kids. He was always active in the sports community and always encouraged us to be on sports teams as we grew up. Later on in life as I became a sports parent, he continued to give me advice and he brought so much enthusiasm to my kids’ sports lives and my coaching career.
I’m truly a student of the game, especially since I first had the opportunity to coach my own sons team’s in Tyke MD, Novice A and Minor Atom A & Atom A, as well Local League.
Coaching kids requires a lot of time and energy, so I have thought long and hard about why I wanted to start this online training/coaching. The reason? As a coach, I want to guide my players/members in developing their skills; I want to help grow their love of the game; and I want to make sure they have fun doing it!
